The US Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI) has released Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) net zero certifications.

India’s progress in LEED Zero projects

• India got first rank in world in LEED Zero certified green building projects.
• With more than 70 LEED Zero green building projects, is a India (USGBC) and top country according to US Green Building Council Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI).
• It is followed by 47 such project certification of USA only 15 LEED Zero certification of China.
• Out of 150 LEED Zero certified projects, India has 45% or 73 such in projects, with Haryana and Tamil Nadu leading the race certifications.
• This achievement will help in keeping on track to reach target of net zero GHG emissions by 2070.
• Of the total carbon emissions in India, is approximately 33% contributed by building and construction sector.

LEED Zero Projects and certification

• LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental and is the world’s most widely used green building rating Designsystem in the world.
• It is developed by United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
• It for provides a framework to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions high performance buildings and spaces.
• It outlines various plans and strategies for land use, efficient management energy, transportation with low carbon foot print, of waste and materials.
• To achieve LEED certification,  by adhering project earns points to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, and waste, transportation, materials, health indoor environmental quality.
• LEED certifications are given in categories like- Certified (40-49 points), Silver (50-59 points), Gold (60-79 points) and Platinum (80+ points).

• It is a membership-based non-profit organization which was founded in 1993
• Headquartered in Washington, D.C USA function/work to transform market through its LEED green building programme.
