Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve
- The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra state in India.
- Â “Tadoba” is ” or taken from the name of the god “Tadoba”Taru”, worshipped by the tribes who live in the dense , while forests of the Tadoba and Andhari region”Andhari” refers to the that meanders Andhari river through the forest.
Features
- The reserve has corridor linkages with Nagzira-Navegaon and Pench Tiger Reserves within the State.
- It is Maharashtra’s oldest and largest national park. Created in 1955, the reserve includes the Tadoba National Park and the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Biogeographically, the reserve falls in the Central Plateau , with tropical dry Province of the Deccan Peninsuladeciduous forests and a typical Central Indian faunal assemblage.

History

- Tadoba Tiger Reserve is famous for its tiger population
- It was established as the second Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra in 1993-94.
- The first Tiger Reserve established in the State is Melghat (1973-74).Â
Flora and Fauna
- To spot flora are Teak, Bija, Ain, Hald, Dhauda, Semal, Salai, Beheda, Tendu, Karaya Gum, Hirda, Arjun, Mahua and numbers of Madhuca, Bheria, Bamboo, Black Plum other trees in abundance.
- It also includes varieties of wild animals other than Tiger like Sloth Bears, Indian Leopards, Nilgai, Gaur, Striped Hyena, Dhole, Jungle Cats, Sambar, Chital, Barking Dear, Indian Python, Chital, Crested Serpent Eagle, Indian , Peacock, Wolf Spiders and many others.Â
- It is mainly divided into three different forest ranges. They are Kolsa South Range, Tadoba North Range and Morhurli Range.
- Morhurli range is located in between the other two forest range. The beauty of this national park multiplies many times by the presence of one river (Tadoba River) and two which gets lakes (Kolsa Lake and Tadoba Lake)overwhelmed in every season of monsoon
- As the major portion of this national park is located in the hilly area, the terrains and the numbers of hillocks are the main shelter for the wild animals here.
